Probably made in less that ten seconds, this sketch is a delightful example of the way Peter used pencil to give almost instantaneous expression to his ideas. Mermaids, like harpies and centaurs, are among his favorite subjects: only half-human, they embody the pleasures – and sometimes the hazards — of life lived near to the senses and primitive instincts.
